Category Archives: Haffey’s Links

Greetings

I’ve added a twitter feed to my site on the right column there… and hopefully my flash status thing at the top of the page will start working again.

COLTS WIN!! Comfortably to boot, it was a double blessing. I’m thinking of inviting people over for next weeks game against the Lions, hit me up if you have interest.

I’m in the process of deciding whether to move to SmugMug from PicasaWeb. PicasaWeb has been great and no matter what I’ll continue using Picasa on my computer and most likely continue with their free storage but for the money I spend I want more. I have 25+gb of photos/videos, it’s about 20,000 files in 500ish folders. The flat structure of PicasaWeb does not handle it well (and I could only house about 50-60% of my items there). I started using SmugMug a few days ago to just check it out, I kind of got into it and was doing a lot of customizations as well as uploading a bunch of photos. That’s when I found that I was missing some original photos I had taken and/or scanned over the years. This is exactly the kind of problem only being able to house a portion of your pictures online can cause, luckily some of the pictures I had online but they were reduced quality because of space limitations. SmugMug has no space limitation, so another point for them there. I’ll be making the final decision sometime this week, but if you’ve read this far you have probably picked up my inclination so far. My PicasaWeb link is on the right (I’ve stripped it down to be under the 1gb free limit) and contact me if you want my SmugMug link… in case you want to give input, which I welcome.

How about some Haffey’s Links??? It’s been quite sometime since I’ve dumped some of these on you, so let me crack open Ye Olde Dusty Google Notebook to share some gems with you:

And we’ll close up shop today with this disturbing video of a Senior Citizen Church Choir singing some of today’s most popular… RAP tracks.

From the desk of Dilbert…

This was a hilarious Dilbert strip from last week that I wanted to put up for Friday Funnies, but I just didn’t get the chance too… so here it is today instead. Please click the image to take you to the Dilbert site so that Scott Adams gets the web traffic he so richly deserves for being the creator of one of the greatest comic strips ever.

From the Haffey’s Links department:

We’ll close with an awesome Will It Blend? episode.. featuring the one and only Chuck Norris.

Number one hundred forty…

Greetings… with training last week and the arrival of our baby quickly approaching I haven’t had a ton of blog time. So let me take advantage of this five minute lull to dump some stuff out here.

LIFE CHANGING TIPS AND TRICKS!!!!
Hey, I know it’s been awhile but never fear I have a good one today… especially for you home owners out there. How to burglarproof your doors. I know I am going to be doing a couple of the suggested things in there, I had been thinking of a moat and drawbridge but maybe just some improvements to the doors would be a cheaper route.

Finally we close with a story about health… Eye doctors warn that prolonged computer use can have ill effects, SO STOP READING THIS BEFORE YOU GO BLIND!

NON-PICTURE CONTENT!

LOL.. I’ve been doing so much catching with photos, I thought it would be a nice diversion to catch up on the 5 billion links I’ve collected over the past three weeks.

Let’s start off with some funny pictures that other people have taken:

How about some news of the cool/weird:

How about some cool/fun flash goodies?

Tech News tidbits:

Let’s wrap it all up with a creepy/funny video:

How did the "Keep Off the Grass" sign get there in the first place?

Friday Funnies
They’re not gone, there just hasn’t been a lot of me posting on Fridays. I’m going to dip back into the Penny Arcade well though (as I probably will a lot) and give you: A Kris Kross reference How can you go wrong with that?

We’re going to hang out at the Randolph’s cabin property tonight in western Indiana, should be fun. I’ll try to take some photos.

News of the “SAY WHAT?”

I read a review of a website that helps people move, called MoveMe. It looks to have lots of cool features to make moving less painful.

How about some free tickets to an Indianapolis Colts game? Feel free to sign up, win, and give them to me. I’ve signed up and my username is airthom.

Sports Illustrated has a “Top 10 College Sports Venues” story up… Memorial Stadium didn’t make it (I’m surprised), but Rosenblatt Stadium did make it. I’ve been to Rosenblatt (a lot) and to the Rose Bowl one time, both are amazing places.

Have a good weekend, see you on the other side.

Fourth of July

This is going to be an action packed blog entry… buckle your seat belts.

First and foremost, sixteen posts ago I passed the 100 mark for blog entries. Yay!

Second, yesterday was the Fourth of July… we invited some people over to my parent’s place for some swimming, cooking out, and a little fireworks fun. I captured some of the excitement with my camera. All the fireworks shots were from our neighbor’s later that night.

Alright, how about we drop some Techie news and a little “Haffey’s links” now…

I watched Hot Fuzz the other day, so I’m going to try and write up a good review of it before the end of the week. Be safe and see you tomorrow.

When French people swear, do they say, "Pardon my English"?

This day in history

1889: Flag Day in the US

In the United States, Flag Day (more formally, National Flag Day) is celebrated on June 14. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.

Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, though on June 14, 1937 Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a state holiday.

Funny and Scary:

Haffey came up big this past week with an OUTSTANDING link to a couple very useful sites:

  • Windows XP Post SP2 Update Pack, which let’s you update your media with the latest updates to save time after building machine by not having to patch them. It also has some other add-on tools that are pretty cool.
  • The other site is tlbox, which is a great repository of various tools (in our link we have focused on System Admins, but there are others to choose from) that you can integrate into Firefox. Kudos to you, sir, for the awesome links.

I have some friends that are really into Guitar Hero, so the next two links are all about them. If you are into GH, you are welcome to enjoy them as well.

Apple iPhone… June 29th… 6pm… local time.

The Colts received their SuperBowl Champion rings last night.

Blast from the past:

I really wanna go see if there are some episodes of this I can get, I used to watch it all the time. heh

What disease did cured ham have?

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Midland

(“Midland” is not necessarily the same thing as “Midwest”) The default, lowest-common-denominator American accent that newscasters try to imitate. Since it’s a neutral accent, just because you have a Midland accent doesn’t mean you’re from the Midland.

Short weeks are good..

I like when Wednesdays feel like Tuesdays.. that means that on “Friday” I won’t have to come into work.

IT’S A WOOT OFF!

Couple neato tech things:

Alright, on to our Wednesday feature..
LIFE CHANGING TIPS AND TRICKS!!!!
Hot on the heels of the May 9 update on how to sleep on a hot night, How to stop brain freeze! It is the season for cold treats, so take the time to read this over and avoid the dreaded BRAIN FREEZE!

I have been using Geni.com for sometime to record my family tree.. it’s a great site with a ton of really nice tools/features.
Here is there latest feature add-ons:

If you are into genealogy and might be thinking about putting your info into a system to help organize it.. I encourage you to try out Geni.com and let me know so we can be family friends. Oh, one last note from the genealogy end… someone that posts at the Geni.com site wrote a good guide on how to use social networking sites to find relatives.

How about a quick movie review? Alright, we took Carson to go see Shrek the Third. It was really good, the whole family enjoyed it. They did very well at moving the story along from the first two movies using enough of the old schtick and characters from the previous flicks, while introducing a good amount of new material too keep it fresh. I often see movies in the theater and think that I would’ve been better off waiting to rent it for home viewing. Shrek the Third did not fall into that category. I will also be buying a copy to watch a few more times at home.

Finally a couple of vids:
John Stewart exposes the “Under Investigation” saying.
And PTI on ESPN features internet-style video clips… lol
